The Angel Ark Foundation Sanctuary is the permanent home to rescues such as these blind Dachshunds who have permanent disabilities.
Lucy, Henny Penny, and Magpie are battery hens, like all battery hens their lives started in a cage so small they could not stretch their wings. With wire mesh floors and rough cage walls that damaged their delicate feathers, their only purpose was to lay eggs day in and day out in a space the size of a piece of printer paper. As a day old chick a battery hen's beak is clipped (usually with an iron hot pair of clippers) to ensure they don't pluck their "neighbors" in such close quarters. They don't get to see the sun and the air in their buildings is thick with the smell of Ammonia. For about a year battery hens are kept like this, producing only for the needs of human greed, after that they are ground up into "meat product" used as soup meat, low quality frozen foods, and dog food.
This is the life of the chickens producing your grocery store eggs. These girls were rescued from Battery style farms in North Carolina by Angel Ark Foundation Rescue. This is what we do, these girls now have lives of freedom and fresh air. They enjoy dirt beneath their feet and sun on their backs. They are able to live as nature intended them to be. |
